Wake Tech's Nurse Aide program trains students to provide basic care and support to patients in various settings, including hospitals, nursing homes and home health agencies. The program combines theoretical instruction with hands-on lab and clinical experience, and students learn under the supervision of licensed nursing professionals.
Graduates are eligible to take the North Carolina Nurse Aide State Exam. Those who pass are added to the N.C. Nurse Aide Registry and can begin working in the field.
Nurse Aide courses are offered in person at the following locations:
Some courses may have an online component, but attendance on campus is still required.
Success in the Nurse Aide program requires time, dedication, and consistent effort. Wake Tech and the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation require students to attend at least 95% of all scheduled hours. The program is delivered through hourly instruction, including lecture, lab and clinical components. Regular attendance means arriving on time, being present for the full duration of each session and actively participating. Missing class time may affect a student's ability to complete the program or sit for the state exam.
Open Lab
The Open Lab provides free learning support for Wake Tech Nurse Aide students. Students can use the dedicated space to independently practice skills learned in class and lab. An instructor will be available to clarify techniques, not to provide full instruction. Students are expected to be proactive and use this time to strengthen their hands-on skills.
When attending the Open Lab, bring your Wake Tech ID and be prepared to provide the name of your current or previous instructor. Before visiting, call the Nurse Aide Office at 919-747-0120 to confirm hours of operation.
Disability Support Services adapts college services to the specialized, individual needs of otherwise-qualified students with disabilities.
For more information, email [email protected] or call 919-747-0120.
Don't have enough money to pay for a course? Right now, Wake Tech's Propel program offers scholarships that cover the cost of registration and fees.
Wake Tech also has scholarships tied to the Nurse Aide program, as well as information about available jobs at area health care facilities.
Wake Tech academic programs (credit and non-credit) that are designed to lead to professional licenses are tied to North Carolina or national certifications. If you intend to pursue professional licenses outside North Carolina once you have completed your academic program at Wake Tech, please refer to the Professional Licensure section of the college's distance education authorization page for additional information.

No, you do not have to be a Wake Tech student to take a Nurse Aide class.
There are several convenient registration methods:
NOTE: If you are under age 18, you cannot register online and must register in person. Visit the Nurse Aide Office in Building E, Room 135, on Scott Northern Wake Campus to complete your registration. Before coming to campus, call 919-747-0120 to confirm that someone is available to assist you.
You may have a blood test done to show proof of immunity.
There are no prerequisites, but you must be at least 16½ years old by the first day of class.
There is no book for the Nurse Aide I class.
There is no orientation session, but you do need to thoroughly read the Nurse Aide syllabus, which can be found on our website.
You may enroll in a Nurse Aide class up to the 10% point of the class, as long as there is seating available.
Yes, Wake Tech offers Nurse Aide classes during the Summer term.
Nurse Aide classes are offered year-round, with new sections starting almost every month at the Scott Northern Wake, Perry Health Sciences and Public Safety Education campuses. We offer day, evening and weekend options to fit a variety of schedules.
While some classes may include online components for homework, all classes are fully seated and require in-person attendance. Be sure to review each course section carefully, as schedules may vary significantly.
If no class sections are visible, you can request to be notified about the next available section by using the "Notify Me" link.
Financial assistance may be available through the Propel program. Email [email protected] for more information.
A confirmation email from your registration will be sent to your Wake Tech email. If you need assistance with your Wake Tech email, call the Help Desk at 919-866-7000.
First, register for the Nurse Aide course and be prepared to pay tuition at the time of registration (cost varies by course).
Next, visit the CastleBranch website to create an account and purchase your clinical compliance package, using code WM83, for $119. This package includes your criminal background check, drug test and medical document manager. CastleBranch will provide instructions on where to complete your urine drug screening, which must be submitted before the first day of class.
Clinical paperwork is due two weeks before your clinical prep and orientation date. Refer to your class schedule for the exact deadline.
You must show verification of identification to your instructor. All other required documents should be uploaded to CastleBranch as early as possible to allow time for review and approval.
Scrubs need to be worn only during clinical. Please dress modestly for class and lab.
Review the Class Withdrawal/Transfer Policy on the Nurse Aide syllabus.
To request a withdrawal, students can log in to their Self-Service account at selfserve.waketech.edu, go to "Plan & Schedule," select the correct term (Fall, Spring or Summer) and drop the course. Or they can email the Nurse Aide Office at [email protected] with their full name, mailing address, phone number, course number and dates and a brief statement of intent to withdraw.
Students who wish to transfer to another section may request a transfer before the 10% point of the course, if space is available, by emailing the Nurse Aide Office. They must first speak with their current instructor.
First, ask your instructor. If your instructor does not know the answer, email [email protected].
