Wake Tech's Nurse Aide, also known as Certified Nursing Assistant, programs introduce students to basic nursing skills needed in a health care setting and are approved by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
Nurse Aide courses are in-person classes. Some courses have an online component, but attendance on campus is still required.
Disability Support Services adapts college services to the specialized, individual needs of otherwise-qualified students with disabilities.
The open lab, at Scott Northern Wake Campus (Building E, Room 135), is available only for Wake Tech Nurse Aide students. Bring your Wake Tech ID for verification.

Wake Tech academic programs (credit and non-credit) that are designed to lead to professional licenses are tied to North Carolina or national certifications. If you intend to pursue professional licenses outside North Carolina once you have completed your academic program at Wake Tech, please refer to the Professional Licensure section of the college's distance education authorization page for additional information.
This course prepares graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis is on the aging process, including mental, social and physical needs of the elderly; patient's rights; nutrition management; elimination procedures; safe environment; restorative services; personal and special care procedures and activities; human body structure and function and related common disease/disorders; communication and documentation; death and dying; and roles of the nurse aide and health team members. A skill/competency evaluation is required. The course includes class, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide I by the N.C. Division of Facility Services.

This course is designed to provide a review of the Nurse Aide l core content to prepare individuals who have been or are currently listed on a Nurse Aide l Registry, have successfully completed a state-approved training program, hold a state-recognized health care credential from any state, or military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training to sit for the Nurse Aide l State Exam.

This course prepares students to perform more complex skills for patients or residents, regardless of setting. A skill/competency evaluation is required. The course includes classes, laboratory sessions, and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide ll by the North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide Registry. In all employment settings, the listed Nurse Aide ll will work under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel.

Personal Care Aide is a uniform pre-nurse aide training program developed to cover essential soft-skills, basic home management and personal care skills. Students will be trained to understand the skills necessary for home management and personal care tasks and be able to provide personal care to clients with limited assistance in home care and in other settings where the Nurse Aide I listing is not required. This course creates a strong foundation for a successful transition into the Direct Care industry or Nurse Aide I and II training (Certified Nurse Aide). This curriculum is part of the Personal and Home Care Aide State Training (PHCAST).

Direct Care Workers play a vital role in health and long-term care systems by improving the quality of life for the people they assist and support. This course is designed to prepare the student to render assistance to aged persons and their families who need support with personal care and home maintenance. The course will explore a variety of direct care worker roles, the education and/or skills needed, and the many different settings for employment. This course will introduce you to the healthcare aide career pathway and satisfy your compassion, commitment, and heart for helping others

No, you do not have to be a Wake Tech student to take a Nurse Aide class.
You may register online for a class or you may come in to one of the Nurse Aide Offices to register in person. Please call 919-747-0120 before coming to the campus to ensure someone is available to help you.
You may have a blood test done to show proof of immunity.
There are no prerequisites, but you must be at least 16½ years old by the first day of class.
There is no book for the Nurse Aide I class.
There is no orientation session, but you do need to thoroughly read the Nurse Aide syllabus, which can be found on our website.
You may enroll in a Nurse Aide class up to the 10% point of the class, as long as there is seating available.
Yes, Wake Tech offers Nurse Aide classes during the Summer term.
We offer classes year round and have new classes starting almost every month at the Scott Northern Wake Campus, Perry Health Science Campus and Public Safety Education Campus. We offer day, evening, weekend and hybrid classes. Please look closely at every section, as schedules can be very different.

You need to register and pay the $250 tuition, go to the CastleBranch website, choose package WM83 and pay $116 for your criminal background check, drug test and medical documentation manager. CastleBranch will tell you where to go to submit your urine sample before class begins.
The clinical paperwork is due prior to the clinical prep and orientation date. Submit copies of your Social Security card and other official signature-bearing ID to your instructor then upload the rest of your paperwork to CastleBranch as early as possible to allow time for review and acceptance.
Scrubs need to be worn only during clinical. Please dress modestly for class and lab.
