Description
This course prepares students to perform more complex skills for patients or residents, regardless of setting. A skill/competency evaluation is required. The course includes classes, laboratory sessions, and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide ll by the North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide Registry. In all employment settings, the listed Nurse Aide ll will work under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel.
Course Objectives
  1. Module 1 - Demonstrates participation in delegation with the Nurse
  2. Module 2 - Demonstrates operation of oxygen equipment as directed by Nurse
  3. Module 3 - Demonstrates ability to create a sterile field and maintain sterile technique
  4. Module 4 - Demonstrates changing a sterile dressing for wounds over 48 hours old
  5. Module 5 - Demonstrates ability to perform oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning on a conscious and an unconscious client
  6. Module 6 - Demonstrates tracheostomy care for client with an established tracheostomy
  7. Module 7 - Demonstrates ability to assemble and flush tubing during set-up, monitor IV flow rate, redress IV site, and properly discontinue a peripheral intravenous infusion
  8. Module 8 - Demonstrates male and female urinary catheterization using sterile technique
  9. Module 9 - Demonstrates proper technique for adding enteral feeding to an existing infusion, adding enteral feeding to an intermittent tube, and discontinuing an N/G tube
  10. Module 10 - Provides care to a patient with an established ostomy by: obtaining a specimen, irrigating, pouching, and providing routine site care
  11. Module 11 - Demonstrates the break-up and removal of a fecal impaction
  12. Module 12 - Demostrates the technique of finger stick capillary blood glucose testing
