Description
Prepare for a high-demand and flexible health care career as a cardiovascular technician! Learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of the EKG, heart rhythms, heart blocks and bundle branches, and more. Find out how to operate EKG equipment, including running and mounting strips, reading and interpreting cardiac lead tracings, and understanding the basics of capnography as related to heart function.
Course Objectives
  1. Explain the role of the EKG technician in a variety of settings.
  2. Understand medical terminology related to electrocardiography.
  3. Explain the anatomy and physiology of the heart.
  4. Prepare a patient for a 12 and 5 lead EKG.
  5. Analyze and interpret basic EKG strips.
  6. Understand normal sinus rhythm, sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, etc.
  7. Perform 10 live EKG strips.
Outline of Instruction
  1. The role of the EKG technician in a varitety of settings.
  2. Medical terminology related to electrocardiography.
  3. Anatomy and physiology of the heart.
  4. Twelve and five lead EKG monitors.
  5. Interpretation of EKG strips.
  6. Cardiac normal and abnormal rhythms.
  7. Performing live EKG strips.
