In partnership with Career Step, Wake Tech offers part one of this two-part, AHIMA-approved program preparing students for careers in medical assisting. Coding and billing professionals translate medical records into standardized codes that are used to bill patients and third-party payers, such as Medicare and private insurance companies. In addition to the focus on coding and billing, participants will learn administrative office practices relating to health information management, healthcare delivery systems, legal and compliance, computer fundamentals and operations, reimbursement methodologies, and biomedical sciences (medical terminology, pathophysiology, anatomy, physiology and pharmacology). This program is trusted by the leading provider of health care services in the U.S. and one of the country's largest managed healthcare companies, among others. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take the AHIMA approved Certification for Medical Coding and Billing and will also have access to job placement assistance through Career Step.
