Certified Bookkeeper AIPB Using Intuit QuickBooks Online

Corporations and local organizations need qualified bookkeepers, who track all financial transactions: sales, purchases, payments, wages, depreciation, inventory, internal controls and fraud protection.

According to ONET, bookkeepers earn $19.78 per hour, on average. Top bookkeepers' earnings can exceed $60,140 a year.

Three of the top specialized skills found in job postings include accounting, accounts payable/receivable and bookkeeping. The fourth skill requested is QuickBooks®, an accounting software that expands the capabilities of bookkeepers.

QuickBooks® training is included in two short-term training courses at Wake Tech: Intuit QuickBooks Certified User Online and Certified Bookkeeper AIPB Using Intuit QuickBooks Online. Together, they can prepare you for the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB) Certified Bookkeeper certification exam.

Financial assistance available

Don't have enough money to pay for a course? Right now, Wake Tech's Propel program offers scholarships that cover the cost of registration and fees.

NOTE: The Propel Scholarship Application is currently closed and will reopen July 1.

Frequently asked questions

Bookkeepers keep records of accounts and financial transactions. They work for a business, provide bookkeeping services for several smaller organizations or individuals, or provide information for financial and tax reports completed by an accountant.

Certification conveys to employers and clients that a practitioner is dedicated to the utmost levels of competence and responsibility. The Certified Bookkeeper designation evidences a candidate's proficiency with adjusting trial balances and performing fundamental payroll activities for businesses with up to 100 employees.

According to the AIPB, the CB designation has benefits for both the in-house bookkeeper and the freelance bookkeeper, including enhanced industry status, advanced career opportunities, potential for higher earnings and a client increase.

An individual must pass the AIPB's four-part national certification exam, demonstrate two years of on-the-job experience as a bookkeeper and sign a code of ethics.

The experience requirement can include internships and tax- or accounting-related volunteerism, such as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, but not simply office work for such organizations.
