Explore all the opportunities awaiting you at Wake Tech during the college's Open House, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday on Southern Wake Campus.
Cadet positions in Wake Tech's Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Academy are highly competitive, with only 28 students accepted for each class. Applicants must have a good driving record and a clean criminal record.
To apply, you must complete these steps:
1. Pass a mandatory reading comprehension test
North Carolina law requires all students, regardless of education level, to take a reading comprehension test within one year of the class start date and score at or above the 10th-grade level. There are no make-up dates.
Upcoming test dates:
You will receive a confirmation email from the BLET office with the date and time of your exam at the Public Safety Education Campus. On the day of the test, your driver's license will be checked, and if it does not match the information you provided on the test reservation, you will not be allowed to take the test.
2. Attend an information session
The session will immediately follow your reading test, and you can obtain a registration packet at the end of the session.
3. Attend mandatory orientation
Academy orientation at the Public Safety Education Campus covers rules, regulations, forms and other important information, including tuition and fees. Arrive at least 15 minutes early – latecomers will not be allowed to participate.
All paperwork in the registration packet received after the information session must be turned in during orientation. It is required for acceptance into the academy.
