“Just a trim!” That’s what Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott got today, when he joined members of the Student Government Association getting haircuts in the college Cosmetology Salon. The event, organized by SGA President Rye Robinson, was intended to highlight cosmetology students’ need for “real” clients as they complete degree programs.

Wake Tech Executive Vice President Mort Congleton has received a top award from the National Council for Resource Development (CRD).

Wake Tech student-athlete Saraya Klink has been recognized as Player of the Year in women’s volleyball by the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA), Division 2 Region X. Klink, star middle hitter for the Wake Tech Eagles women’s volleyball team.

College students who need a little extra help with basic computer skills can now find it online. Wake Tech is offering its third MOOC, or Massive Open Online Course, in Computer Basics.

Dr. Stephen Scott, President of Wake Technical Community College, is  proud to announce that the college has received the highest of marks from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), its accrediting body.

Building contractors who depend on heavy equipment will soon have a new pipeline of skilled workers to operate that equipment. Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott announced today that the college will launch a high-tech Heavy Equipment Operator training program in January 2015. 

Wake Tech received more than $4.4 million in grant funds in 2013-14, the most successful year in the 10-year history of the college’s Office of Sponsored Programs and Federal Relations. Educational institutions often count on grant awards to expand programs and services beyond what their operating budgets allow. 

A Wake Tech professor is heading to Angola where he will train doctors in remote clinics on how to improve response to medical emergencies.

Wake Tech students have a new resource to prepare for careers in the global economy. The college held a grand opening celebration for its new Confucius Classroom today. The Confucius Classroom is a collaborative initiative with NC State University’s Confucius Institute (NCSU-CI), and Nanjing Normal University and Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters in China.
