RALEIGH, N.C. (November 10, 2014) - Wake Tech Executive Vice President Mort Congleton has received a top award from the National Council for Resource Development (CRD). Congleton, who is also the Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, was named Fundraising Professional of the Year at their annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on Friday. CRD, an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges, supports college development professionals at more than 750 institutions nationwide. The award honors those whose efforts in raising funds from private donors have made a significant impact on the college and its students.
Congleton joined Wake Tech as Foundation Director in 2005, and under his leadership, total assets for the foundation have grown from $2.4 million to more than $12 million. Last year he led Wake Tech’s first major gifts campaign, which exceeded expectations with a $17.5 million total. Before coming to Wake Tech, Congleton served on the Raleigh City Council and was Executive Director of the SPCA of Wake County, and was instrumental in creating the vision for the nationally-recognized Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center. He is past president of the CRD, and he was named Wake Tech’s 2014 Staff Member of the Year.
