Learn Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety requirements and standards for the construction industry.

The 10-hour OSHA course shows entry-level construction workers how to recognize and prevent hazards on a construction site. The 30-hour OSHA course is a comprehensive overview of the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions on the job site. It also provides an understanding of OSHA General Industry regulations, enforcement and compliance.

These courses are an ideal orientation for workers who are new to construction and an excellent reminder of workplace hazards for those who have been in the industry for some time.

This course is designed to provide a basic overview of the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions in the construction industry. Students will develop a basic understanding of OSHA regulations, enforcement, and compliance. Topics include fall protection, hazard communication, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, excavations, and more.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety

This class provides instruction in OSHA safety requirements and standards for the construction industry. Students learn to identify hazards on construction job sites and methods of reducing or eliminating the hazard. A certification exam is administered at the end of the class, and students who successfully complete the exam receive their OSHA 30-Hour Safety Certification for Construction.

Course Objectives

Have an understanding of all topics presented and how they apply to a construction site

Be able to identify hazards and recommend corrective action to eliminate the hazard


Outline of Instruction

Introduction to OSHA (2 hours)

Managing Safety and Health (2 hours)

OSHA-Focused Four Hazards (6 hours): Fall protection, electrical, struck by, caught between

Personal Protective Equipment (2 hours)

Health Hazards in Construction (2 hours)

Stairways and Ladders (1 hour)

Elective Topics (12 hours minimum): Concrete and masonry construction; confined-space entry; cranes, derricks, hoists, elevators and conveyors; ergonomics; excavations; fire protection and prevention; materials handling, storage, use and disposal; motor vehicles, mechanized equipment and marine operations; powered industrial vehicles; safety and health programs; scaffolds, steel erection; hand tools and power tools; welding and cutting

Optional (3 hours): Teach other construction industry hazards or policies and/or expand on the mandatory or elective topics. The minimum length of any topic is one-half hour.
