Wake Tech marked September 11th with a tribute to that day’s victims and heroes, along with recognition of the first responders in our own community who risk their lives every day. Public safety professionals joined college leaders and other members of the community at the Public Safety Education Campus for the event. 

Thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), Wake Tech Community College is helping veterans translate military experience into opportunities for employment and career advancement.

The Wake Tech Eagle has had a makeover! The college has unveiled a new logo for its athletics programs, designed by Wake Tech’s Creative Services team. The centerpiece of the logo is a “new and improved” image of Wake Tech’s mascot, Talon the Eagle, which shows more energy and spirit. It will be phased in beginning immediately.

When Anderson Grace Hughes finishes high school in 18 years, she won’t have to worry about paying for the first two years of college! Dr. Stephen Scott, President of Wake Technical Community College, announced today that the college Foundation will provide a full scholarship for Anderson, born today at WakeMed, and just identified as Wake County’s one millionth resident. The scholarship will cover two years of tuition at Wake Tech at the going rate in the year 2032.

A record 22,358 students converged on Wake Tech’s five campuses today as the 2014-15 academic year got underway. Students purchased books, obtained identification badges and parking stickers, and familiarized themselves with course schedules.

Wake Tech leaders, corporate benefactors, and individual contributors came together tonight at a banquet to celebrate the success of young adults formerly in foster care. The event, held at the Capital City Club in Raleigh, honored students in the Fostering Bright Futures program as they prepare to start college at Wake Tech next week.

Dr. Stephen Scott, President of Wake Technical Community College, joined school and county leaders for the opening of the Vernon Malone College and Career Academy in Raleigh today. The Academy, a partnership between Wake County Public Schools and Wake Tech, prepares high school students for high-demand, technical careers as part of their high school graduation credits.

Dr. Stephen Scott, president of Wake Tech Community College, is proud to announce a 1,502 students made the President’s List or Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester. 

Current and future college students who need extra help in chemistry can now take a free online Wake Tech course called a MOOC – a Massive Open Online Course. Chemistry Concepts (CheMOOC) is Wake Tech's second MOOC, which invites large-scale participation and provides open access to higher education via the web.
