Students Receive Top Honors at Statewide Competition
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 15, 2015) - Students from Wake Tech Community College won nine awards at the annual Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference, showcasing their talent with two first place and two second place awards. Several students took home multiple awards. Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is the national academic organization for students in business and leadership; the 61st annual statewide conference took place April 9-11 at the Hilton University Place in Charlotte. Two hundred-thirty students from 28 college and university chapters across North Carolina competed in the event.
Two Wake Tech students placed second in the state in individual events:
- Asia King, Client Service
- La’ Kia Young, Job Interview
Four Wake Tech students placed fifth in the state in individual events:
- Kevin Lanier, Social Media Campaign
- Shaquille Nelson, Sales Presentation
- Erica Penny, Accounting Analysis
- La’ Kia Young, Future Business Executive
One Wake Tech student placed sixth in the state in individual events:
- Erica Penny, Word Processing
Wake Tech also earned two team awards. The Marketing Analysis and Design team of River Norris and Asia King placed first in the state. The Management Analysis and Decision Making team of River Norris and Kevin Lanier also placed first in the state.
Four Wake Tech students will advance to the nationals in Chicago, Illinois, in June.
