Public Safety Training Academy
Wake Tech's Public Safety Training Academy has the facilities to take your training to the next level.
Firing range
An indoor firing range with 12 shooting stations is located on the Public Safety Education Campus. Phone: 919-866-6150
For reservations, contact Travis Baker at [email protected] or 919-866-5880.
Reality-based training
Simulations are held in rooms that can be reconfigured into various scenarios, from an apartment to a hallway to a trailer. Wake Tech provides all safety equipment, SIMS guns and non-lethal marking cartridges. The program focuses on stress inoculation with an emphasis on de-escalation, shoot/don't shoot scenarios and verbal command skills.
For reservations, contact Travis Baker at [email protected] or 919-866-5880.
FATS
Part of the reality-based training is a virtual system known as FATS. It allows students to evaluate and react in real-time to verbal cues, facial expressions and overall body language. The marksmanship side of the system allows officers to practice and identify areas of concern with their shooting, such as anticipation of recoil, jerking the trigger or not focusing on the front sight. The scenarios reflect current, real-life incidents and threats, including school shootings and domestic disturbances.
For reservations, contact Travis Baker at [email protected] or 919-866-5880.
SCAT room
The SCAT room is a 2,200-square-foot matted defensive tactics room with access to kick shields, focus mitts, boxing gloves, headgear and related equipment.
