Wake Tech students, staff and faculty celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day ON, not a day off. Volunteers participated in two service projects in Raleigh today.

Students and instructors in the Baking and Pastry Arts Program at Wake Technical Community College volunteered their time and talents for a good cause. The group spent more than 50 hours building gingerbread creations for the annual Gingerbread House Benefit at the Umstead Hotel in Cary.

Hundreds of small business owners, and those who want to start their own businesses, got some valuable information today at the Small Business Resource Summit at Wake Technical Community College.

Mort Congleton, Wake Tech Vice President of Development and Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, has been named treasurer of the 2011 Board of Directors of the Council for Resource Development (CRD) in Washington, D.C. CRD supports more than 700 community colleges across the U.S.

"Lost but not forgotten." Those are the words inscribed on a plaque that was hung today at Wake Tech's Public Safety Education Campus. The campus held a special ceremony dedicating a portion of its Memorial Wall to honor fallen NC Department of Correction officers. 

"I sweat in this," former soldier Nathaly Hill said with pride as she cut up her old uniform during The Combat Paper Project at Wake Tech's Northern Wake Campus. The unique week-long workshop allows veterans to turn their old war uniforms and other clothing of personal significance into works of art.

WakeMed Health & Hospitals has been helping Wake Technical Community College provide high-quality training for the region's nurses and health professionals for more than 50 years. Now, that impressive commitment will be recognized with a national philanthropy award.

"You are our experts!" Those were the words of Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott tonight at Wake Tech's annual dinner honoring the College's 63 advisory committees. More than 350 professionals from the community serve on these committees, which support Wake Tech by helping to shape programs and ensure the relevance of course content and instruction.

Why study the future? Renowned futurist Marvin Cetron believes it's the key to survival in the 21st century. Cetron presented his ideas today at the SunTrust Center for Strategic Futures. More than 600 students, staff, faculty and members of the community came to hear Dr. Cetron speak at Wake Tech's Main Campus.
