Wake Tech Sustainability Dean Earns Advanced Certification

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 30, 2011) - Robert "Butch" Grove, Wake Tech's Dean of Sustainability, has received his professional certification in Campus Sustainability Leadership from the Institute for Global Sustainability at the University of Vermont. Grove successfully completed the nationally-recognized program in July.

"Community colleges, by virtue of their strong connection to the people and commerce of a region, have the opportunity and responsibility to redirect communities toward sustainability," says Grove. "We must rise to this occasion and model innovative practices and systems for a sustainable future."

Grove, a Wake Tech instructor and administrator for more than 20 years, was named Dean of Sustainability last year. He is in charge of enhancing sustainable practices and operations across the college, as well as adding new environmentally-focused training components to Wake Tech programs. Grove is also leading a statewide project to improve the educational curriculum in sustainability and "green" technologies at all North Carolina community colleges. The Code Green Super CIP (Curriculum Improvement Project) is focusing on building, energy, transportation, environment, and engineering technology.

Grove started at Wake Tech in 1986 and most recently served as Dean of the Computer and Engineering Technologies Division. In 2000, he was named Wake Tech's Instructor of the Year. Grove holds an A.A.S. degree in Computer Engineering Technology from Wake Tech and a B.S. in Computer and Information Sciences from NC Central University.
