Wake Tech Foundation Welcomes New Board Members

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 4, 2011) - The Board of Directors of the Wake Tech Foundation welcomed local business leaders Douglas Baker, Douglas Boyd, Adrienne Cole, Patrick Lindsey, and NC Representative Tom Murry, to its ranks. They were selected based on their passion and commitment to Wake Tech. The Wake Tech Foundation manages private investments to serve Wake Tech students, faculty, and staff and connects private citizens, alumni, and corporate donors who are critical to the success of the college.

Douglas Baker has more than 20 years of experience as a corporate leader. He serves on the boards of directors of three Triangle companies: Surya Technologies, a Raleigh-based provider of managed IT services, Riley Life Logistics, a Durham-based logistics company and Kryosphere, a company based in Research Triangle Park that he helped found. Kryosphere specializes in the storage of research samples for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

Douglas Boyd is an emergency management expert who recently served as the first African-American mayor of Knightdale. He worked for six years at the NC Division of Emergency Management, and was manager of the Temporary Housing Program during Hurricane Floyd. Boyd served more than 25 years in the U.S. military and currently owns Doug Boyd Enterprises, a company that focuses on disaster recovery, leadership and motivational speaking. He also offers event catering, serving what he calls "the best barbeque in the world."

Adrienne Cole is the Business Development Manager for Lend Lease US Construction, Inc., a global project management and construction firm. Previously she served as the Executive Director of Raleigh Economic Development for the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. Cole serves on the Board of Directors of the Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women.

Patrick Lindsey is an Audit Partner with Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP, the largest CPA firm based in the Southern United States. Lindsey is a CPA with more than 19 years of public accounting experience. He is former chairman of the Wake Tech's Fostering Bright Futures Advisory Board and a graduate of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Raleigh program.

Tom Murry is serving his first term representing North Carolina House District 41 which includes portions of Raleigh, Cary, Apex, and the entire Town of Morrisville. Representative Murry is a member of the House Commerce and Job Development Committee, as well as the Insurance and Transportation committees. He is also an attorney and pharmacist and is part-owner of a local pharmacy in Raleigh.

At its August meeting, the Foundation Board also named a new leadership team of Arne Morris (chair), Jill Heath (chair-elect), Larry Hamilton (treasurer), and Dr. Stephen Scott (secretary).

The Wake Tech Foundation board also includes: Elizabeth Clay Bradley, David Campbell, W.H. "Bud" Coggins, Linda Coleman, Mort Congleton, Joe Cooper, Mike Desmond, Judy Fourie, Clyde Holt, Rita Jerman, Gary Jordan, Barry, Long, John McKinney, Jim Perry, Donna Preiss, Dr. Stephen Scott, Rachel Selisker, Ed Turlington, Elmo Vance and Ron Wainwright. Potential new members of the Foundation Board are first approved by a nominating committee and then voted on by the entire Board. Responsibilities of board members include establishing policy, raising and managing funds, fostering relationships with potential donors, and supporting the objectives of Foundation staff. Members of the Foundation's Board of Directors serve three-year terms.

The Wake Tech Foundation's mission is to partner with corporations, foundations, and individuals to support Wake Technical Community College's institutional and instructional needs. In the 2009-2010 academic year, more than 250 students continued their education with the help of a Foundation scholarship or emergency financial assistance loan.
