The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has announced a $20,000 contribution to “The Ripple Effect,” Wake Tech’s major gifts campaign. The funds will expand BOA’s already-generous support for students transitioning out of GED and Adult High School programs to include graduates of ESL (English as a Second Language) and high-level graduates of Adult Basic Education programs.

Wake Tech Community College is grateful – and it shows! College staff and administrators took to the streets with “thank you” signs during morning rush hour today, thanking Wake County voters for overwhelmingly approving a $200 million bond in Tuesday’s election.

Virginia Parker, Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Wake Tech Foundation, has been awarded the 2012 Vernon Malone Friend of Education Award by Wake Education Partnership. The annual award is the highest honor given by the Partnership.

Wake County companies now have a powerful resource for keeping employees’ skills sharp and up to date. Wake Tech’s Corporate Solutions is a newly-created college division that provides state-of-the-art training, customized to meet the specific needs of corporate clients.

“You are our experts!” Those were the words of Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott tonight at Wake Tech’s annual dinner honoring the College’s 60 advisory committees. More than 400 professionals from the community serve on these committees, which support Wake Tech by helping to shape programs and ensure the relevance of course content and instruction.

It’s another first for Wake Tech Community College: Wake Tech is the first community college in the nation to experiment with a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).

The SunTrust Foundation will continue its generous support of vital Wake Tech programs with a second contribution to the Wake Tech Foundation’s major gifts campaign, called “The Ripple Effect.”

Job seekers interested in telecommunications careers can now come to Wake Technical Community College for the skills they need to enter the field. Wake Tech’s new Broadband Technician Training program, the only one of its kind in North Carolina, springs from a new partnership that includes Wake Tech, Time Warner Cable, and the Apprenticeship and Training Bureau of the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL).

“North Carolina is making progress, but there is much more work to do!” Governor Beverly Perdue visited Wake Tech’s Public Safety Education Campus today to announce findings from a new report on the status of women in North Carolina.
