Wake Technical Community College has a new scholarship program focused on leadership, vision and community service. Raleigh residents Mark and Rachel Selisker have donated $25,000 to launch the Stephen C. Scott Presidential Scholars Program, named after the college president.

Community college faculty from across the state, including 160 from Wake Tech, attended a summit today to discuss ways to enhance education in STEM fields - science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Santrell Caison, Director of Admissions at Wake Tech, has received the prestigious Fulbright International Education Administrator award. Later this month, she will travel to Germany to learn about its education system and become part of a network of international colleagues.

U.S. Representative Renee Ellmers visited Wake Tech's Main Campus today to get a first-hand look at the college's technical programs, including Automotive Systems Technology, Biopharmaceutical Technology, and Culinary Arts. 

Wake Tech automotive instructor Rich Cregar will travel to China next month to share his expertise in sustainable transportation technologies with world leaders. Cregar will make a presentation on biofuels at the first annual Low Carbon Earth Summit, taking place October 19-26 at the World Exposition Center in Dalian, China.

Mort Congleton, Wake Tech's Vice President of Development and Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, has been named president-elect of the Board of Directors of the. Council for Resource Development (CRD) in Washington, D.C. CRD supports more than 700 community colleges across the U.S. by developing leaders through education, advocacy, and mentoring.

Let the games begin! Wake Tech welcomed the sights and sounds of college sports to campus this week for the first time in its 50-year history. The college renovated its Early Childhood Education Building on Main Campus, adding a physical education wing that includes a 17,000-square-foot gymnasium.

Robert "Butch" Grove, Wake Tech's Dean of Sustainability, has received his professional certification in Campus Sustainability Leadership from the Institute for Global Sustainability at the University of Vermont. Grove successfully completed the nationally-recognized program in July.

Wake Tech Community College is pleased to announce grant funding awards of more than $2.5 million in the 2010-2011 fiscal year. Educational institutions often rely on grant awards to expand programs and services beyond what regular operating budgets allow.
