Intended Audience
Participants who are bilingual and interested in pursuing a career in interpretation and translation.
Explore the skills necessary to become an interpreter and/or translator. Students will learn the difference between being an interpreter and a translator and have the opportunity to assess their language skills for either industry. They will understand the necessity of cultural awareness and discuss idioms, terminology, dialects and slangs and their importance. This course will provide knowledge, guidance and direction for the next step in your interest of becoming an interpreter or a translator.
Course Objectives
  1. have accessed their personal knowledge and language skills level;
  2. have discussed different fields in translation and interpretation;
  3. have become aware of cultural awareness differences in translation and interpretation;
  4. have discussed idioms, terminology, dialects and slangs;
  5. have learned the importance of ethics;
  6. have reviewed interview skills for this industry;
  7. have researched job and educational opportunities.
