The placement test does not determine your admission to Wake Tech, but it does determine whether you will need to take pre-curriculum (preparatory) courses before you begin a program of study. Please read the information below carefully to find out if you are exempt from testing or to schedule and prepare for the placement test. 


Test Exemptions

You may be exempt from taking the ACCUPLACER Placement Test based on your high school GPA, score on the SAT or ACT, grade in a college-based class, or score on an AP exam. See below for criteria:

Test Exemption Based on High School GPA

Applies to graduates of NC high schools (within the last 5 years) who have an unweighted 2.6 GPA or higher AND have completed Algebra II/Common Core Math III/Integrated Math III AND one of the following

  • Advanced Functions & Modeling
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Pre-Calculus
  • Integrated Mathematics IV
  • AP Calculus
  • AP Statistics
  • Calculus (completed by June 2014)
  • Analytical Geometry (completed by June 2014)
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Math
  • International Baccalaureate Computer Science
  • Mindset
  • Probability & Statistics (completed by June 2015)
  • Trigonometry (completed by June 2014)
  • Essentials for College Math (SREB-Math Ready) 

*coursework and GPA must be verified upon receipt of an official high school transcript

Test Exemption Based on Course Grade

  • To receive an exemption from the English test, you must have received a grade of "C" or better in a college-level English course from an US regionally or nationally-accredited institution. 
  • To receive an exemption from the Math test, you must have received a grade of "C" or better in a college-level Math course from an US regionally or nationally-accredited institution. 

Test Exemption Based on AP Exam Score

  • If you have taken an AP English or math exam, scores may be provided for review and determination of waiver. Check the AP credit policy at collegeboard.org.
