Dr. Stephen Scott, President of Wake Technical Community College, joined school and county leaders for the opening of the Vernon Malone College and Career Academy in Raleigh today. The Academy, a partnership between Wake County Public Schools and Wake Tech, prepares high school students for high-demand, technical careers as part of their high school graduation credits.

Dr. Stephen Scott, president of Wake Tech Community College, is proud to announce a 1,502 students made the President’s List or Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester. 

Current and future college students who need extra help in chemistry can now take a free online Wake Tech course called a MOOC – a Massive Open Online Course. Chemistry Concepts (CheMOOC) is Wake Tech's second MOOC, which invites large-scale participation and provides open access to higher education via the web.

Wake Tech nursing professor and clinical coordinator Linda Tyler has  been selected as one of the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina for 2014! Tyler was chosen by The Great 100, Inc., an organization recognizing nursing excellence and providing scholarships to students across the state. 

The Wake Tech Board of Trustees has a new leader: Harvey Montague, the longest-serving member of the board, has been named its new chairman. Montague joined the board in 1996 and has served as Vice Chair since 2008. He succeeds Jim Perry. 

Chrono Tear … Sledge … Sock-It: One of these could be the next big thing in video games! Designed by students in Wake Tech’s Simulation and Game Development program, the games were presented at the annual Student Showcase on Main Campus tonight.

Wake Tech students took home top honors after an excellent showing at  Phi Beta Lambda’s National Leadership Conference competition, held June 24-27 in Nashville, Tennessee. Phi Beta Lambda is the national student academic organization for business and leadership. 

New students who have completed the application process can now register and pay for fall classes. The registration period, which opened earlier this month for continuing students, now includes students who are new to Wake Tech.

A new Wake Tech initiative to engage employees in creative, collaborative problem-solving has won the 2014 Innovation of the Year Award from the League for Innovation. The initiative, called SAIL (Succeed, Achieve, Improve, Learn), is a structured process through which college staff and faculty can work together to address institutional challenges.
