Wake Tech Names New “Idol”

RALEIGH, N.C. (December 5, 2014) - And the 2014 “Wake Tech Idol” is: Jasmine Axelrod! The first-year Wake Tech student, from Raleigh, took home the title in the second annual Wake Tech Idol competition tonight. Axelrod performed “Work Song,” by Hozier, competing against nine other finalists to win a $1,000 scholarship.

"I'm so excited to win this competition,” said Axelrod. “It means so much to me. Music is what I want to do, and Wake Tech has an outstanding music program."

Wake Tech students Autumn Rogers and Justin Rejesus placed second and third in the competition, respectively.

The live finale took place on Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus, in the Building E Performance Hall. Three talented local judges critiqued the singers: Phyllis Coley, CEO and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Spectacular Magazine; Matthew Coppedge, a model and actor; and Tracey Coppedge, an actor and voiceover artist. The judges picked the top three singers, and audience votes determined the winner.

"Jasmine was just outstanding!” said Dr. Gayle Greene, Senior Vice President of Northern Wake Campus. "We love to showcase student talent at Wake Tech – and our students are extraordinarily talented!”

Wake Tech’s Fine Arts Department offers the Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree with concentrations in Music and Visual Art. Each provides a comprehensive and highly-personalized education with the core courses necessary to transfer to a four-year institution.
