Painting Exhibition to Fund Scholarships for Older Students
RALEIGH, N.C. (January 27, 2015) - What’s your passion? For retired pharmacist and health administrator Julian Bradley, it’s painting, and his artwork is being shown at Cary’s Town Hall from January 27 to March 23. The Second Chance Painting Exhibition, as the event is called, is Bradley’s effort to help others pursue their passions at Wake Tech Community College.
His paintings, including landscapes, seascapes, flowers and pets, are for sale at the exhibition, and proceeds will fund the Second Chance Scholarship at Wake Tech. Bradley and his wife Liz Clay Bradley, a member of the Wake Tech Foundation Board of Directors, established the scholarship in 2004 to support students 35 and older in earning the college degree they’ve always wanted. The scholarship is awarded to five Wake Tech students each year, and the Bradleys hope to double that number.
“Many people aren’t sure what they want to do in life until they’re in their mid-30s,” says Mrs. Bradley, “but by then they have families and jobs and find it hard to go back to school. Our hope is that this scholarship will help adults in that situation pursue their dreams.”
Julian Bradley had a successful career in health care before retiring 18 years ago. He then worked as a touring docent at the NC Museum of Art and decided he wanted to study painting formally. His landscapes have been inspired by the Bradleys’ many travel adventures. More than 20 paintings will be on display and available for purchase at the exhibition.
”From the time I was a kid I dreamed of being an artist, but never really pursued it,” says Bradley. “Now I’m doing what I’ve always wanted, and helping others do the same!”
A reception will be held in conjunction with the exhibition on February 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Town of Cary Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources is sponsoring both the reception and the exhibition. For more information, contact [email protected].
