DSS is available on all Wake Tech campuses.
For parents or guardians with student-specific concerns, please ensure that the student has submitted a FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) form. This gives faculty and staff permission to speak with designated individuals. The FERPA form can be found in Self-Service. Under the User ID, select "Parent/Proxy Access."

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Staff may ask two questions:
An emotional support animal (ESA) is any animal that is often used as part of a medical treatment plan as therapy, but they are not considered service animals under the American with Disabilities Act. However, based on ADA guidelines, ESAs are considered a reasonable accommodation for students with a documented disability and a physician's specific accommodation. ESAs can be any animal. Students utilizing ESAs must be registered through DSS.
Faculty and staff questions
Call 911. However, the student can refuse service and/or transport once first responders arrive. This releases Wake Tech from liability.
For more details, refer to Wake Tech's Emergency Procedures.
No, accommodations are not retroactive.
No, extra time can be provided by DSS or the eLTC. Students must submit a test request at least seven days before the test or quiz, and you will be notified of their request.
Check the Faculty Resources page for more details.
Please contact the student's coordinator. The name and contact information can be found at the bottom of the accommodation notice.
Rather than asking a student if he or she has a disability or needs assistance from DSS, we suggest that you speak to the student about all available resources at Wake Tech, including DSS.
Information can be found in the faculty guide. If this does not answer your question, contact DSS at 919-866-5670 or [email protected].
Contact the student's coordinator, listed at the bottom of the student's accommodation notice.
