If you’re interested in being a nurse aide and your first language is Spanish, this course is for you!
Conversational skills in English are also required. A bilingual instructor delivers the course in English, making clarifications in Spanish to help students fully understand. You’ll learn how to provide personal patient care, fundamental nursing care to the elderly, and other care for adults – under the supervision of a registered nurse. You’ll learn in a classroom and get hands-on instruction in a laboratory and at a clinical site. Upon completion, you’ll be eligible to take the NAI state competency exam to be listed on the NC Nurse Aide Registry.
Course Objectives
  1. Module A - Describe the NC Nurse Aide l
  2. Module B - Demonstrate an understanding of infection prevention and how the chain of infection relates to the work of a nurse aide
  3. Module C - Describe the role of the nurse aide in dealing with emergencies in a health care facility
  4. Module D - Describe successful and unsuccessful techniques of communication with residents
  5. Module E - Describe a residnt's rights and what the nurse aide's role is in maintaining these rights and preventing abuse
  6. Module F - Identify caring behaviors consistent with treating a resident with dignity
  7. Module G - Explain the role of the nurse aide in basic restorative care
  8. Module H - Desribe the structure, function, changes, common disorders, and the role of the nurse aide related to the integumentary, musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestial, urinary, reproductive, endocrine, and immune systems.
  9. Module I - Describe principles of body mechanics that help prevent injury
  10. Module J - Describe nutritional and hydration requirements of the older adult
  11. Module K - Identify safety interventions that the nurse aide can do to create an environment for restraint elimination or reduction as well as the proper use of restraints and the negative effects of restraint use
  12. Module L - Identify effective communication with members of the health care team by reporting and recording information correctly
  13. Module M - Identify the role of the nurse aide in each step of the nursing process
  14. Module N - Describe events that might occur in a health care facility that would require an incident report and list the information to be included on the report
  15. Module O - Describe the importance of a nurse aide's ability to think critically while performing resident care
  16. Module P - Describe the importance of family and family support to the resident
  17. Module Q - Describe the characteristics of a facility incorporating person-centered care
  18. Module R - Identify cogitive changes that occur due to aging
  19. Module S - Describe the psychological effects of aging
  20. Module T - Describe the nurse aide's role in the care of the resident with Alzheimer's
