Intended Audience
Small business owners, entrepreneurs or anyone who wants to create their own website.
This class walks students through the complete process of creating a website, from purchasing a domain name to building the site with WordPress, populating it with content, and understanding how to maintain it. Students will leave the course with a completely-functional website for their business.
Course Objectives
  1. Write a statement of purpose for their website.
  2. Secure a domain name.
  3. Sign up for hosting services and/or account
  4. Create a WordPress website.
  5. Understand what widgets and plugins are and how they are used.
  6. Upload media to site (images, videos).
  7. Understand how to maintain a WordPress website.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Introduction to WordPress and considerations for creating a website.
  2. Creating a statement of purpose and website's identity
  3. Determining website content
  4. Choosing a platform, domain name, and hosting service.
  5. Installing WordPress on a hosting account
  6. Changing WordPress settings
  7. How to add users/administrators.
  8. Choosing a theme.
  9. What media is and why size matters.
  10. Adding content like pages, posts, links, images, and video.
  11. Creating and editing menus.
  12. Selecting and installing widgets..
  13. Installing and using plugins.
  14. Adding security to the WordPress website
