For the second time ever, Wake Tech has exceeded all of the benchmarks for success set by the North Carolina Community College System. The benchmarks, called “Critical Success Factors,” demonstrate student success in college readiness, workforce preparedness, and as college transfers.

A record 20,216 students descended on Wake Tech’s five campuses today as the 2012-13 academic year begins. It’s the first time fall enrollment has hit the 20,000 mark in college history. Student enrollment at Wake Tech has increased more than 55% over the past five years.

Wake Tech’s new campus police force added ten law enforcement officers to its ranks today. NC Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby swore in the officers at Wake Tech’s Public Safety Education Campus. The force will provide a safe, secure learning environment for students, faculty, and staff at Wake Tech’s five campuses and two training centers.

Wake Technical Community College, the state’s largest community college, is asking voters to approve $200 million in bonds to fund new building projects over the next five years. Wake County Commissioners unanimously agreed to place the bond referendum on the November ballot.

The Wake Tech Foundation has an important new partner in its largest-ever fundraising initiative. ABB, an international leader in power and automation technologies, has generously committed $150,000 over three years to Wake Tech’s major gifts campaign, called “The Ripple Effect.”

Wake Tech student Fiaunna Shivers has won a prestigious honor in Phi Beta Lambda’s National Leadership Conference competition, held June 24-27 in San Antonio, Texas. Phi Beta Lambda is the national student academic organization for business and leadership.

Wake Technical Community College is pleased to announce that it has renewed its membership in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). AASHE supports sustainability by providing institutions with resources, professional development, and a peer support network.

Wake Tech Trustee Ron Wainwright has been elected to the Executive Board of the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees (NCACCT).

Wake Tech has been honored for its commitment and excellence in training local law enforcement personnel. Raleigh Police Chief Harry Dolan presented the “Chief’s Citation” award to three leaders in Wake Tech’s Public Safety Training Division.
