About The Program

The Health and Fitness Science program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the fitness and exercise industry. Students will be trained in exercise science and be able to administer basic fitness tests and health risk appraisals, teach specific exercise and fitness classes and provide instruction in the proper use of exercise equipment and facilities. Graduates should qualify for employment opportunities in commercial fitness clubs, YMCAs/YWCAs, wellness programs in business and industry, parks and recreation departments and other organizations implementing exercise and fitness programs.

Facilities:

The group exercise studio is utilized for classes such as Aerobics, Yoga, Dance, and Fitness and Wellness. The cardio section is equipped with state of the art machines including Rowers, Treadmills, AMT’s, Upright/Recumbent Bike, and an Arm Ergometer.

The free-weight section includes a rack of dumbbells ranging from 2.5-100lbs as well as multiple adjustable benches. The gymnasium is a full-size basketball and recreational court with ample perimeter space.  Courses utilizing the gymnasium are Fitness and Wellness, Basketball, Circuit Training, Aerobics, and Fitness Testing.
The Physiology Lab equipment includes a Metabolic Cart, Cycle Ergometers, Wingate Bike, and multiple other measuring tools for vital signs and body composition.
