Wake Tech is closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Prospective students can still apply online, and current students can register for 12- and eight-week Spring semester courses. The college will reopen Tuesday morning.

Medical Laboratory Technology AAS

The Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum prepares individuals to perform clinical laboratory procedures to maintain patient health or diagnose and treat disease. The procedures may be in any of the following:

  • Chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Microbiology
  • Immunohematology

Course work emphasizes mathematical and scientific concepts related to the following:

  • Collection of tissue, blood and body fluid specimens
  • Laboratory testing and procedures
  • Quality assurance
  • Reporting/recording and interpreting findings

Graduates may be eligible to take the examination given by the Board of Certification of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Employment opportunities include laboratories in hospitals, medical offices, industry and research facilities.
