Wake Tech Alum Wins Prestigious Scholarship Award

Matt Purvis, a 2010 graduate of Wake Technical Community College, has been selected to receive NC State University’s 2012-2013 College of Engineering Faculty Senior Scholarship Award. Purvis, an NCSU student in electrical engineering, represented his department in a competition against eight other top students to win the award, which recognizes academic, extra-curricular, and community achievements.

Chinese Educators Visit Wake Tech

More than a dozen college and vocational school leaders from China received a crash course in North Carolina’s community college system today at Wake Tech Community College. The visitors, from Hainan Province in southern China, visited Main Campus and discussed the college’s successful structure and programs with Wake Tech President Stephen Scott and senior administrators.

Wake Tech culinary arts students are preparing for the educational experience of a lifetime! Five students and their instructor will depart for Le Touquet, France, on Thursday, March 8, to study French cuisine at a culinary school and learn the ropes in French restaurants.

This contest is all it's cracked up to be! Wake Tech pre-engineering students participated in an egg drop competition this week on Main and Northern Wake campuses. The challenge: drop a fresh egg from different heights onto a platform of straws and masking tape without breaking the egg.

Former tobacco industry employees now have an added incentive to train for new careers: scholarships to pay for retraining. The N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission has presented Wake Tech Community College with $10,000 for Project Skill-Up, a vital program that assists those who have been hurt by the decline of the tobacco industry.
