The Practical Nursing program trains individuals to practice as entry-level nurses. Practical nursing is all about helping people stay healthy at every age and using medical knowledge to take care of people, usually clinics, hospitals or long-term care facilities.
Graduates of Wake Tech's program meet the education requirements to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN). They also demonstrate the competencies identified by the National League of Nursing (2010) and the National Academy of Medicine (2003) to provide nursing care and are prepared to be responsible life-long learners.
A licensed practical nurse (LPN) is under the supervision of the registered nurse or other health care providers approved by North Carolina law. In accordance with the North Carolina Board of Nursing Administrative Code, 21NCAC 36. 0225, Components of Nursing Practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse, the LPN participates in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient's response to health care interventions.
Wake Tech academic programs (degree and non-degree) that are designed to lead to professional licenses are tied to North Carolina or national certifications. If you intend to pursue professional licenses outside North Carolina once you have completed your academic program at Wake Tech, please refer to the Professional Licensure section of the college's distance education authorization page for additional information.
