The 21-month Cardiovascular Sonography program prepares students for careers as sonographers, skilled health care professionals who use high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal structures of the body.
The curriculum includes physics, sectional anatomy, pathology, physiology and patient care in addition to cardiovascular sonography. Students are placed at various health care facilities, where they work with hospital staff, for clinical experience.
The limited-enrollment program is offered at Wake Tech's Perry Health Sciences Campus, adjacent to WakeMed's flagship hospital in Raleigh.
The Cardiovascular Sonography AAS Degree prepares students to take national registry examinations through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Cardiovascular Credentialing International to become certified sonographers.
Employment opportunities include hospitals, clinics, physician offices, medical laboratories, government agencies and industry.
Wake Tech academic programs (degree and non-degree) that are designed to lead to professional licenses are tied to North Carolina or national certifications. If you intend to pursue professional licenses outside North Carolina once you have completed your academic program at Wake Tech, please refer to the Professional Licensure section of the college's distance education authorization page for additional information.
