Volunteerism & Leadership works with individuals and groups within the Wake Tech community to find service projects that align with their interests and serve our community. Whether a group is looking for a one-time or short-term service project or an individual is seeking a service-oriented internship, we seek to connect Wake Tech students, faculty and staff with community members in need.
Activate Good
Activate Good works as a "force multiplier" for local causes with volunteer needs. Through two major programs, the organization works to make volunteerism part of everyday life in the community. Through outreach efforts and online volunteer community, it helps recruit and connect individuals, groups and companies to fulfill volunteer needs with community partners across the Triangle region.
Read and Feed
Provide a warm meal to elementary school children and help them stay on track with their reading level by providing reading assistance. Wake Tech volunteers are needed once a week for an entire semester.
Blood Connection
Donating blood saves lives – it's that simple. Every whole blood donation has the power to save up to three lives. Your donation could be someone's only chance at another day.
Wilmington Street Men's Shelter
This shelter and soup kitchen serves dinner to homeless men from the Raleigh area. Dinner is prepared by the staff, but volunteers are needed to serve it. Wake Tech volunteers on the first, third and fifth Friday of each month.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle
Volunteers help recover and distribute food that would otherwise go to waste and pack and deliver food to children and seniors. They also work on Inter-Faith's farm and urban learning gardens, assist in the warehouse and help teach nutrition education.
Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina
A nonprofit organization with the mission that no one should go hungry, the food bank collects food that might otherwise be wasted and distributes it to organizations feeding people in need. Volunteers sort and repackage food and assist staff with local food pickups and other projects.
Rise Against Hunger
A meal-packing event process that combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix, including 21 essential vitamins and minerals, into small meal packages. These meal packages are shipped around the world to support school feeding programs and crisis relief. Wake Tech hosts a packing event once a year around MLK Day.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity believes that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. Teams build and repair houses all over the world using volunteer labor and donations. Partner families purchase these houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans or innovative financing methods. Wake Tech volunteers help build these houses once a month.
Meals on Wheels
More than 2,200 volunteers help deliver 1,300 noontime meals every weekday to home-bound older adults and persons with disabilities in Wake County. Outreach consists of hot meals to home-bound individuals, communal dining for adults age 60 or older in congregate dining rooms and frozen meal service for dialysis patients and other home-bound individuals in isolated areas.
