Description
Want to make a living and make a difference? You can utilize a unique three-pronged approach (plan/do/review) that focuses on what works for you while you transition careers.
Assess your accomplishments, previous work and hobbies to find your right career path. Discuss the attitudes and beliefs that may affect your ability to produce income. Find your song and sing it!
Course Objectives
  1. have an understanding of the challenges of this economy and a broader vision for finding a new path to income production.
  2. have a clear understanding of where they have been and what about their work has really mattered to them.
  3. have experienced using a “Results-Oriented Goal Setting Process” that will help them utilize a “plan, do, review” process for career development.
  4. have a variety of ideas and perspectives produced through group discussion that will form the basis for on-going action plans that are modified in accordance with the results each plan produces.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Session 1: Introduction to Finding Your Song & the 3-Pronged Approach to Career Development
    • Traditional Career Development vs. the 3-Pronged Approach
    • Recognizing the changes in our economy as opportunity to expand your horizons
    • Implementing “continuous improvement” principles in career planning
    • Aligning your career with a sense of purpose or mission
    • Practicing the 3-Pronged Approach – initial list of action items
  2. Session 2: Analyzing Your Past for Clues to Your Future
    • Review and group discussion of initial action items
    • Worksheet on Discovering Who I Am
    • Introduction to the Results-Oriented Goal Setting Process
    • The role of attitudes and belief in moving into your future
  3. Session 3: An Expanded View of Resources Available to Help You Explore New Paths
    • Review and group discussion of initial goal setting sheet
    • Discussion of Resource List – discussion of new trends to be aware of
    • Potential guests who can bring new ideas and help with group coaching (TBD based on expressed interests of the group)
    • Updating of goal sheets with new action steps for next time
  4. Session 4: Overcoming Fear & Doubt in Your Career Development Process
    • Review and group discussion of most recent action steps and results
    • Acupressure techniques for improving confidence during tough times
    • Potential guests who can bring different perspectives and ideas for staying motivated and confident – personal growth techniques
    • Updating of goal sheets with new action steps for next time
  5. Session 5: The Joys & Challenges of Creating Something Totally New
    • Review & group discussion of most recent action steps and results
    • Understanding the “creation process” and how it differs from a known process
    • Allowing yourself to imagine the unthinkable
    • Incorporating an action step dedicated to “inventing” – along with other new action steps. Prepare to present a summary of progress from the class.
  6. Session 6: Final Coaching Session & Wrap-Up
    • Participant summaries – progress as a result of class
    • Final questions, discussions and feedback forms
    • Some final notes on the idea of multiple streams of income
