The Medical Sonography AAS Degree prepares students to use high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal structures of the body.
The 21-month program covers physics, sectional anatomy, pathology, physiology, patient care and abdominal, vascular and obstetrical/gynecological sonography.
Students are placed at various health care facilities, where they work with hospital staff, including on a limited number of night and weekend rotations. During the clinical rotation, students will have contact with ill and injured patients.
The AAS degree prepares students to take the national registry examination to become certified sonographers through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography®. Certified sonographers provide imaging services under the supervision of a physician, who analyzes the images to aid in diagnosis.
Employment opportunities include hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, medical laboratories, government agencies and industry.
