Distance Learning Program 

The Fire Protection Technology curriculum is offered totally online and is designed to provide individuals with the technical and professional knowledge to make decisions  about fire protection affecting both public and private sectors. The curriculum also provides a solid foundation for additional education in fire protection and fire safety management and administration. 

Students learn technical and administrative skills in leadership, management, hazardous materials, arson investigation, fire protection safety, fire suppression management, law, and codes. All of our courses are taught online making it more flexible and convenient to our students lifestyles and schedules.   

Graduates should qualify for employment in government agencies, industrial firms, insurance  rating organizations, educational organizations, and municipal fire departments. Those employed in the field should be qualified to move into skilled and supervisory-level positions within their organizations


Standard Certification Applied as Course Credit in Fire Protection Technology curriculum courses: 

  • Students  certified as a NC Firefighter II, applies as credit for FIP120: Introduction to Fire Protection (3 hours) 
  • Students certified as a NC Fire & Life Safety Educator II, applies as credit for FIP124: Fire Prevention and Public Education (3 hours) 
  • Students certified as a NC Fire/Arson Investigator, applies as credit for FIP128: Detection and Investigation (3 hours) 
  • Students certified as a NC Fire Inspector Standard Level II, applies as credit for FIP136: Inspections and Codes (3 hours)
