RALEIGH, N.C. (November 5, 2025) – Wake Tech's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society celebrated one of its largest induction classes to date, welcoming 112 new members during a ceremony Wednesday night on the Southern Wake Campus.
PTK is an international honor society that recognizes the academic achievement of associate degree students at two-year colleges and provides opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders. To be inducted into PTK, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and demonstrate good moral character and citizenship.
Jacob Wisor, Carolinas Region president of PTK, encouraged the inductees to lead with purpose and humility, emphasizing the importance of service and community.
"Servant leadership is not focused on power or personal gain," said Wisor. "Leadership is quiet support, not a domineering presence. Leaders encourage success and look past failure."
During the ceremony, each inductee received a white rose, symbolizing beauty, purity and intelligence. Family and friends watched proudly as students were recognized for their academic excellence and commitment to leadership and service.

Officers of Wake Tech's Beta Alpha Zeta chapter for the 2025-26 academic year were also inducted, including Megan Turner as president. Turner is a second-year student in the Associate in Arts program who plans to graduate in May and continue her education at UNC-Chapel Hill through the C-STEP program, a partnership that guarantees admission for selected Wake Tech students. She will pursue a degree in psychology with a concentration in behavioral and integrative neuroscience, aiming to understand the biological foundations of behavior to improve treatment for those affected by psychological conditions.
Following the inductions, Provost Dr. Gabby McCutchen presented the Exemplary Advisor award to Rhonda Thomason, assistant to the senior dean of Liberal Arts, in recognition of her leadership and more than 30 years of dedicated service to PTK.
Turner also shared updates on Honors in Action, PTK's signature program combining research and service. She highlighted ongoing student-led projects, including one exploring the importance of storytelling among first-generation college students.
Chapter advisors are Assistant Dean of Curriculum Data Management Michelle Capps, Professor of History Steven Hill, Associate Professor of Religion Dr. Jean-Pierre Kamuabo, Thomason, Professor of Psychology David Thompson and Assistant Professor of History James Wils.
