RALEIGH, N.C. (July 31, 2025) – After six weeks of college preparation and academic growth, students in Wake Tech's Eagle Start Summer Bridge Program are ready to spread their wings and start their college journey.

This summer, 88 students completed the program, which was created to help first-year students transition into college. Students are given the opportunity to gain a head start on their academic journey before the beginning of the Fall semester.

The Eagle Start students were recognized Thursday and received certificates of completion during a celebration ceremony at Beltline Education Center attended by family and friends. From mastering new skills to building connections with their instructors, students shared emotional and inspiring testimonials reflecting on their transformation during the summer program.

Despite a recent car accident, Brooke Phillip said she was determined to persevere and complete the program.

"All I could think about was everything I worked hard for, all the days I showed up for school," she said. "This program has taught me to work hard toward my future and to keep pushing, no matter your obstacles."

Marcus Thompson Jr. said he's confident about starting his first semester of college thanks to Eagle Start.

This has been a very proactive and overall enjoyable experience," he said. "I'm prepared and ready for the upcoming school year, and I wish all my peers the best in their journey."

Students spent the summer completing foundational math and English courses and attending workshops focused on academic success strategies. They also received laptops and connected with campus resources like tutoring, career coaching and more.

Since it launched four years ago, Eagle Start has helped nearly 400 students prepare for a successful college experience.
