RALEIGH, N.C. (May 10, 2025) – Dozens of adult learners are celebrating with a high school equivalency credential in hand.
Wake Tech honored 165 students in the college's Adult High School (AHS), High School Equivalency Preparation (HSEP) and High School Equivalency for Seasonal Workers (HEP) programs during a special graduation ceremony on Scott Northern Wake Campus.
Family and friends cheered proudly for their loved ones whose dreams became reality after much perseverance, hard work and sacrifice.
Student speakers Marsofia Jean and Nury Zavala Maldonado addressed their fellow graduates and shared their inspiring stories of triumph.
Jean, who dropped out of high school at 15, said her son was her primary motivation to go back and earn her high school credential 20 years later. She's excited to start a degree in Cybersecurity at Wake Tech this fall.
"I'm happy to have shown him that it's never too late to finish your education and become better in life," she said. "I want to thank Wake Tech for giving me and my son this opportunity to achieve a dream."
Maldonado wants to become a teacher and encouraged her fellow graduates to keep dreaming big.
"Today, we are not only closing a chapter in our lives, but we are opening doors to a future full of possibilities," she said. "Let us build a future with passion and commitment and know that we can achieve anything and make a difference in the world."
