College to Host Virtual Workforce Continuing Education Open House

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 22, 2020) – Thinking about a new career but don’t know where to start? Wake Tech offers Workforce Continuing Education training for every job in town.

Learn more about the college’s short-term, non-degree training and resources at the upcoming Workforce Continuing Education Virtual Open House on Thursday, November 5.

During the two-hour online event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to choose from a schedule of some 30 different sessions. Participants can learn about prep courses for industry-credential exams in high-demand career fields, like IT, healthcare, and public safety, apprenticeship opportunities for students to earn while they learn, and fee-waived courses for job seekers, like job search techniques and career exploration. Attendees will also get a taste of classes for those who want to learn to bake, start and grow a business, manage personal finances, or just take a class for fun.

This event is offering a special Plus 50 track with workshops targeted for seniors. Sessions focus on second careers, healthy living, and savvy retirement options such as maximizing Social Security benefits, investments, and healthcare.

The event also features a session on WakeWorks Propel, the newest addition to Wake Tech’s WakeWorks program. Starting in January, Propel will provide free accelerated training programs leading to industry recognized certifications or state credentials for 20 high-demand jobs in five career fields – IT, healthcare, skilled construction and maintenance trades, industrial/manufacturing, and public safety.

Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) courses are considered "non-credit." WCE students don't earn college credit towards a degree (except in some unique cases) – but can earn industry-recognized certifications and CEUs. Wake Tech offers an extensive catalog of non-credit, short-term programs to get job seekers into the workforce quickly.

“Obtaining relevant skills and credentials that are valuable in the workplace is more important than ever,” says Anthony Caison, Wake Tech’s Vice President of Workforce Continuing Education. “Employers are looking for personnel ready to enter the labor market with the skills they need to succeed. The Workforce Continuing Education Division at Wake Tech is excited to share our multitude of program offerings with potential students during our first Workforce Continuing Education Virtual Open House.”

Anyone interested in attending should register at openhouse.waketech.edu to reserve a spot.
