Future Game Developers Gather in Raleigh

Wake Tech Highly Involved with East Coast Game Conference

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 16, 2019) - The highly popular East Coast Game Conference (ECGC) returned to the Raleigh Convention Center today for its eleventh year. The three-day conference is the largest gathering of video game professionals and future game developers on the East Coast, with sessions led by industry experts and opportunities for networking and collaboration. More than 1,500 people registered for the event.

Wake Tech’s Simulation and Game Development program is one of the organizers of the conference.  Several students showcased games they designed and Wake Tech provided 100 volunteers.

Richard Boyd, a member of Wake Tech’s Board of Trustees, was one of the presenters. He discussed the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and the value of learning about these new technologies. “Wake Tech is uniquely positioned to deliver training for people interested in this ever-changing industry,” he said.

New this year: all high-school seniors got in free Tuesday afternoon and had the opportunity to register for a chance to win a $1,000 Wake Tech Simulation and Game Development Scholarship.

“We are happy to provide high school seniors an amazing, free opportunity for career exploration at the East Coast Game Conference,” said Walter Rotenberry, Co-Founder of ECGC and Wake Tech Professor of Computer Programming and Database Administration.

Wake Tech has one of the most successful Simulation and Game Development programs in the region and students come from all over the country to enroll in it. The program includes a/v technology, modeling, animation, design and programming. Graduates are employed as designers, testers, animators, programmers and administrators. The Triangle is home to dozens of video game companies and many hire Wake Tech graduates.
