RALEIGH, N.C. (August 16, 2022) – Wake Tech students now have a convenient way to access campus support services when necessary. The Care Center opened its doors in the Student Services Building on the Southern Wake Campus today. The center serves as the "go-to' spot for the following support services:
- Student Success Coaches, who provide guidance and encouragement to help students achieve their academic goals
- Emergency aid, which may be available to cover immediate needs that interfere with academic success
- Technology assistance includes laptops to help students in the classroom and with assignments at home
- "The Nest" food pantry, which operates at seven Wake Tech locations
- Transportation assistance includes Go Raleigh and GoTriangle bus passes, emergency gas cards and connections to carpool options.
- Wellness Services, which provides confidential counseling to empower students to resolve personal problems such as anxiety, trauma, substance abuse and others
"There truly is a commitment to caring and rallying around our students at Wake Tech," says Associate Vice President Scarlet Edwards. "We know that life sometimes gets in the way of our best-laid plans, and we don’t want students to get derailed. We want to make sure they have easy access to the many support services available."
All new Wake Tech students are automatically assigned a Student Success Coach to help them navigate Wake Tech processes, academic challenges and personal needs. Current students not assigned a Success Coach may request one by emailing [email protected].
The Southern Wake Campus is Wake Tech's first Care Center location, in Building L, Suite 128. It is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Other Care Centers are under development at the Scott Northern Wake Campus (Building B, Suite 137), the RTP Campus (Building 1, Suite 244) and the Perry Health Sciences Campus (the location hasn't yet been set). Virtual appointments are also available.
The Care Center also provides support for Fostering Bright Futures, a unique program to help former foster youth succeed, and Pathways Success Scholars, part of the state's Minority Male Success Initiative. Learn more at www.waketech.edu/carecenter or email [email protected].
