The Cardiovascular Sonography AAS Degree prepares students to use high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the human heart and vascular system to help diagnose and treat illnesses and diseases.
The 21-month program covers physics, sectional anatomy, pathology, physiology and patient care.
Students have the opportunity to experience state-of-the-art equipment in clinicals and during lab time. A cardiovascular sonography lab is located on the Perry Health Sciences Campus, and students perform live exams using the equipment during class and lab time. Students also can work at several local clinical sites each semester to gain experience on other equipment and in other settings.
Employment opportunities include hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, medical laboratories and government agencies.
During the program, students complete the Sonography Principals and Instrumentation (SPI) examination.
Graduates of the Cardiovascular Sonography AAS degree program are eligible to apply for national credentialing examinations through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
