Academic Foundations

The Academic Foundations Department offers courses that support students seeking to complete their academic program and earn a degree. Courses are designed to prepare students for college-level work by helping them develop the reading, English and mathematics skills required for academic success.

Students are placed into or out of courses based on their unweighted GPA from a U.S. high school within the last 10 years or by other placement test scores, including English as a Foreign Language (EFL) placement test, ACT, SAT, GED and HiSET tests.

Students needing EFL placement should contact the EFL office.
Students with a high school GPA of 2.8 or higher may register for any entry-level (gateway) English or math course.
Students with a GPA of 2.2 to 2.799 may enroll in a gateway English or math course with a mandatory corequisite course.
Students with a GPA below 2.2 must enroll in a one-semester prerequisite English and/or math course.

All students who require a transition course will be required to take ACA-090, a course designed to improve students' success in their college coursework. Please contact the Academic Foundations Department or an advisor with any questions.
