Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation

Wake Tech Course ID: A1010T

The Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP) is designed for students who plan to become licensed teachers in elementary education (K–6), middle grades or high school English and social studies.

The degree prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree and pursue teacher licensure.

Students complete a strong foundation of general education and teacher preparation coursework while developing knowledge and skills related to teaching and learning, child and adolescent development, educational technology, classroom diversity and effective instructional practices. Field experiences provide opportunities for students to connect what they learn in college courses with teaching and learning in real-world school settings.

The Program Planning Guide outlines the courses required for the AATP degree and helps students select courses that support their intended teaching area and transfer destination.

Graduates are well-prepared to continue their education at a four-year college or university, complete a bachelor’s degree in education or an approved teacher licensure program and work toward North Carolina teacher licensure. Wake Tech maintains partnerships and transfer agreements with colleges and universities across North Carolina to help students make a smooth transition from the associate degree to a bachelor's degree and their chosen teaching career.
