All beds, tree wells, and courtyard areas will be mulched annually with double-shredded hardwood mulch. Mulch will be kept away from the base of tree trunks and the crown of shrubs. Mulch from the previous season will be turned, and up to two inches of new mulch will be added.
Leaf removal will include raking and vacuum/blower removal of leaves from turf areas, shrubs, flowerbeds, sidewalks, and parking lots as required to maintain a professional look at all times.
Mowing and Trimming
Mowing will be at a finished height of 3 ½” to 4” throughout the mowing season. Mowing will take place as needed and as weather permits. Mowing operations include trimming around all obstacles, raking excessive grass clippings, and removing debris from sidewalks, curbs, loading docks, and parking areas.
Pruning Trees and Shrubs
Trees and shrubs will be pruned to maintain their natural shapes and sizes. Shrubs are not allowed to grow together unless designed to do so as a hedge. Trees and shrubs around all buildings will be pruned not to touch any building, and shrubs will be kept lower than windowsills where appropriate. Branches that limit headroom or pedestrian or vehicle pathways will be pruned to allow clearance, including the removal of crossing branches or those not consistent with standard form and general thinning for light penetration and air circulation.
Seasonal flowers will be planted each season (spring, summer, fall, winter). Flower selections are approved by the Facility Manager. Seasonal flowers are used to add beauty to focal points on campus. Wake Tech uses thousands of flowers for this purpose – pansies, kale, dusty miller, flowering cabbage, and others. We prepare and maintain beds and plant high-quality plant materials in high traffic/highly visible areas to make the best use of limited resources.
All exterior trash/recycling containers will be emptied daily as required. For college activities held outside, we will provide assistance to set up and take down furnishings, place exterior trash/recycling bins in the event area, and assist with clean-up after the event.
Snow removal will begin at the request of the Facility Manager or upper management. Accumulated snow will be removed from all parking lots and sidewalks. Snow will be removed from edge to edge of all sidewalks, and ice melt will be used to keep sidewalks from being a safety hazard. If you see a potential hazard in a campus area, please submit an Eagle Assist request.
