Episode 28: Special Graduation Episode

Graduation is a symbolic ceremony that marks a special academic achievement. It is an opportunity for Wake Tech students, their families and friends to celebrate this monumental moment in their lives. It is also a significant higher education milestone, as Wake Tech students become graduates.

Dr. Scott Ralls introduces you to two extraordinary Wake Tech students who have made strides at the college. You will hear from Rachel Magee and Taj Hewitt as they stand on the cusp of completing their time at Wake Tech. Through an open and honest conversation, you will uncover how Wake Tech is a gateway to career opportunities and a ladder to success, whether their next steps take them into the workforce or to a four-year university.

Magee enrolled at Wake Tech after facing financial challenges with other education and work choices. Her interest in COVID-19 vaccines led her to choose the new Biotechnology program, and now she is one of two students receiving a Biotechnology Associate in Applied Science degree. She maintained a 4.0 GPA, became a member of Wake Tech's Honors Program and participated in the unique STEM Academic Research and Training program (START), which offers Wake Tech students undergraduate research opportunities.

Hewitt came to Wake Tech from Jamacia, where he ranked at the top of his high school class. While pursuing his Associate in Science degree at Wake Tech, he was selected for the prestigious Scott Scholarship. Hewitt served as a member of the Student Government Association and also participated in the START program. He also spent time volunteering, helping weekly at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's Camden Street Learning Garden in downtown Raleigh, which helps community members grow food for their families.
