HRD (Human Resources Development) courses provide employability skills training and assistance for adults who are trying to find employment, transitioning back into the workforce, or working to redefine their professional niche in today's global market.

Classes are designed to address current needs and trends of the complex and constantly changing workforce.

Intended Audience
Individuals interested in exploring opportunities in healthcare and develop job seeking skills for this industry.
This course is designed to give students exposure to a number of allied health careers in medical settings. Students will utilize results of the Career Ready 101 assessment to align personal likes and interests with possible career options. Several health care positions will be identified including: phlebotomist, radiologic technologist, surgical technologist, medical assistant, nursing assistant, dental assistant, home health aide, paramedic, physical therapy assistant, vision care technician, x-ray technician, and pharmacy technician. Qualifications and assets deemed necessary or desirable for these positions will be reviewed and discussed. Students will also explore entry level duties, skills, and tasks required with each of these positions. Students will learn how to craft a health care resume and successfully navigate the application and interview process. The use of computers in medical environments is highlighted and the impact of technology on job functions will be identified.
Course Objectives
  1. have conducted multiple self assessments to determine probable career paths;
  2. have identified health care career trends and salary ranges;
  3. have looked at the fastest growing allied health care categories of occupations in North Carolina;
  4. have learned how to use assertive behavior in the workplace;
  5. have discussed how to attain a win-win solution out of a conflict situation in the health care setting;
  6. have identified methods to increase self esteem;
  7. have learned the importance of professional goal setting;
  8. have described problem solving techniques required in today's workplace;
  9. have identified how to maintain employment;
  10. have seen how technology is used with electronic medical records and how computers provide skill-building to employees;
  11. have learned job search techniques, interviewing skills and resume writing tips appropriate for health care workers seeking employment.
