The short courses, offered at various Wake Tech campuses, are designed to support anyone interested in self-discovery, career exploration and insight into career paths that may be the best fit for them.

Fees are waived for anyone who is unemployed, underemployed, facing a layoff, eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit or earning wages at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Intended Audience
Job seekers interested in exploring opportunities in healthcare.
Explore the many career possibilities in allied health care – phlebotomist, radiologic technologist, surgical technologist, medical assistant, nursing assistant, dental assistant, home health aide, paramedic, physical therapy assistant, vision care technician, x-ray technician, and pharmacy technician! In this course you’ll learn about the qualifications and entry-level skills and duties for each of these positions. You’ll learn how to craft a health care resume and navigate the application and interview process. This course highlights technology’s use in medical settings and its impact on job functions.
Course Objectives
  1. have conducted multiple self assessments to determine probable career paths;
  2. have identified health care career trends and salary ranges;
  3. have looked at the fastest growing allied health care categories of occupations in North Carolina;
  4. have learned the importance of professional goal setting;
  5. have identified how to maintain employment;
  6. have seen how technology is used with electronic medical records and how computers provide skill-building to employees; and
  7. have learned job search techniques, interviewing skills and resume writing tips appropriate for health care workers seeking employment.
