Forklift Technician Program

The Forklift Technician Program trains students to service, troubleshoot and repair various types of lift trucks and equipment in the material handling industry. Diesel, gasoline, propane and electric machines are covered in detail

Sponsorship with a partnering dealer is required, and Wake Tech can assist with obtaining a sponsorship.

As sponsored students in Wake Tech's one-year Construction Equipment Systems Technology Diploma program, students attend classes on Monday and Tuesday during the Fall and Spring semesters and on Monday during the Summer term. They work for their sponsoring dealer on the other weekdays, earning a fair hourly wage. Tuition and textbook reimbursement may be available after graduating, based on the dealer sponsorship contract agreement. A tool program incentive may also be available.

Courses cover the following topics:

  • Transportation systems theory
  • Braking systems
  • Design parameters
  • Drivetrains
  • Electrical/electronic systems
  • Engine repair
  • Engine performance
  • Environmental regulations
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Materials
  • Product finish
  • Safety
  • Steering/suspension
  • Sustainable transportation
  • Transmission/transaxles

After earning a diploma, the technicians can pursue an AAS Degree in Construction Equipment Systems Technology.
