RALEIGH , N.C. (June 19, 2025) – More than 100 new Wake Tech students are building a strong academic foundation for college in the Eagle Start Summer Bridge program.

Designed to support incoming students with their transition to college, the summer program kicked off Thursday with welcome sessions held at the Scott Northern Wake Campus, Southern Wake Campus and Wake Tech East. Students heard inspiring words from instructors and student support staff, and they received laptops and book bags to ensure they are fully equipped for the semester ahead.

"At Wake Tech, we have a culture of care," said Kay Ruth, who heads the Tutoring and Learning Center. "We offer many resources to support students both academically and beyond. This program introduces them to all that is available."

For the next six weeks, students will take foundational math and English classes, attend workshops focused on academic success strategies and become familiar with campus support services and resources – from tutoring to career coaching.

Kalia Scott, an Eagle Start student, said she's excited to start at Wake Tech and thankful to have support to succeed.

"Being able to access these resources as a first-year student makes me feel more comfortable and excited to start my college journey," she said.

The Eagle Start Summer Bridge program began four years ago as an initiative to help students complete gateway courses needed to enter college-level English and math. To date, some 300 students have completed the program.
